Publisher's Summary: With his characteristic eyebrow-raising behavior, Richard P. Feynman once provoked the wife of a Princeton dean to remark, "Surely you're joking, Mr. Feynman!" But the many scientific and personal achievements of this Nobel Prize-winning physicist are no laughing matter. In addition to solving the mystery of liquid helium, Feynman has been commissioned to paint a naked female toreador and asked to crack the uncrackable safes guarding the atomic bomb's most critical secrets. He has traded ideas with Einstein and Bohr, discussed gambling odds with Nick the Greek, and accompanied a ballet on the bongo drums. Here, woven with his scintillating views on modern science, Feynman relates the defining moments of his accomplished life. |

Author Feather Schwartz Foster To Discuss First Ladies at Caldwell Col SCOTCH PLAINS, NJ – If you’ve ever wondered how the role of First Lady evolved from purely social duties to the demanding obligations of today’s position, you’ll get an earful with “LADIES: A Conjecture of Personalities.” Its author, Feather Schwartz F "Mary Lately" - Martha Berner There's nothing wrong every so often with a straightforward acoustic-based ballad with a good melody; this one strikes me as a poignant yet gratifyingly sturdy example. Martha Berner is a Chicago-based singer/songwriter who has lived previously in Alaska, Israel, Thailand, and Wisconsin, among other places. Could be her itinerant background is what gives her this air of being somewhat but not quite exactly like so many different musicians. Her resonant voice sounds like a slightly duskier version of Sarah McLachlan, back when she was writing good songs; I hear a touch of Dar Williams as well, around the edges of her enunciation; meanwhile the overall vibe makes me think that this is what the Cowboy Junkies might sound like if Norah Jones were the lead singer. "Mary Lately" is a song off Berner's debut CD, "This Side of Yesterday," released last month on Machine Records. The MP3 can be found on the Machine web site. Author of "Garfield's Train" To Appear at Lecture Book-Signing AREA – All area residents are invited to attend a lecture and book signing by Scotch Plains author Feather Schwartz Foster, at the Scotch Plains Public Library at 3 PM, Wednesday, February 8, 2006.
