Publisher's Summary:

Commercial public radio? What sounds like an oxymoron is a growing reality for public radio, as the medium grows more dependant on corporate and foundation funding. The fear is that listeners may become turned off enough to tune out. In a bold move, Marketplace, a PRI program that covers the business and financial worlds, subjected itself to scrutiny with a special report on the effects of underwriting and journalism ethics. This program is a compilation of that series which aired in 3 parts: "Commercial Public Radio?", "Local Radio Stations," and "How Strong the Firewall?". The series was created by independent producer Sandy Tolan who worked with a 3-person advisory group that included Deborah Potter, former CBS and CNN correspondent and now director of NewsLab, Richard Parker, senior fellow at Harvard University's Shorenstein Center, and Al Stavitsky, associate dean at the University of Oregon's school of journalism.
